Course Offerings
The following courses are taught by Dr. Davis as part of degree programs in Environmental Studies.
We also have an online degree for working professionals: Master of Sustainability, Security and Resilience.
Bioenergy: Science, Policy, and Business ES 5710/4710
Students gain an understanding of the history, current trends, and potential future production of bioenergy. Students will be able to describe and interpret life-cycle impacts of bioenergy production systems. The course reviews policies affecting bioenergy production; and analyzes crop species, agro-ecosystems, land managements, conversion technologies, co-products, transportation infrastructure, and end uses of bioenergy production pathways for both solid and liquid fuels. Students evaluate ecological impacts, land and water requirements, economic efficiencies, and energetic efficiencies of bioenergy systems relative to other energy systems.
Ecology and Environmental Issues
ES 6820
Interdisciplinary systems approach to an ecology course, focusing on the human-environment relationship. Students learn about the interacting biological and abiotic factors that influence the way our world works today. Students also participate in a debate-style synthesis assignment to practice science communication.
Environmental Science and Public Policy
ES 5620 or ES 3620
This course is offered online, and provides a practical introduction to science literacy, environmental policy, and tools to apply scientific information effectively to complex real-world problems. This class was codeveloped with Dr. Geoff Dabelko.
